Italy faces an imminent threat from far-right forces that could set the country back on fundamental issues such as civil and women's rights. The culture of hatred has already criminalised sea rescues of people in danger of dying and contributed to incidents such as the recent brutal killing in broad daylight of Alika Ogorchukwu, a 39-year-old Nigerian immigrant.

A polarising climate means that politicians do not discuss the real problems of the country and are not committed to finding solutions. That is why it is up to us: we know that real change can only come from the bottom up. We must fight more than ever to defend our rights and bring about the change we would like to see. 

​

We have already seen what happened in Brazil, Hungary and the United States when civil movements were overwhelmed by a wave of hatred. We must unite to prevent the same from happening in Italy.  It is only through the power of community that we can overcome this challenge and fight fear, hatred and exclusion.
 
Action for Democracy helps civic organisations and initiatives find support from the citizenry to make meaningful, accelerated and long-term changes in society. Signatures on petitions, ideas, and voluntary donations are what each of us can give to these realities to shape a better Italy.

Lo sviluppo e l'ampliamento dei diritti sociali e civili dovrebbe essere alla base dell’azione di qualsiasi governo di un paese avanzato e democratico come l'Italia. Troppo spesso, però, la politica ha deluso le aspettative di cittadine e cittadini, dimostrando che solo attraverso il potere della società civile e delle comunità locali si può sopperire all’assenza delle istituzioni e superare le tante sfide che ci riguardano. 

​

La difesa dell’ambiente e dei diritti delle donne, a partire da quello per un aborto sicuro, l’accoglienza dei migranti che scappano da guerre e povertà in cerca di un futuro migliore, il sostegno alla comunità LGBTQI+ nelle battaglie quotidiane per una libertà ancora troppo limitata, la difesa dei tanti lavoratori sfruttati da un mercato sempre più precario. Tutti temi su cui si potrebbe e dovrebbe fare molto di più.

Il risultato delle ultime elezioni garantirà alla destra un governo lungo e solido da cui è difficile immaginare dei passi in avanti su questi argomenti, ma non bisogna dimenticare che la politica italiana ha deluso tante persone anche quando la destra era all’opposizione. Per questo motivo è fondamentale che la rete sociale della solidarietà e dell’attivismo, diventi sempre più forte. Così da garantire un futuro ai diritti sociali e civili del Paese, a prescindere dal governo in carica. 

Action for Democracy aiuta organizzazioni e iniziative civiche a trovare supporto dalla cittadinanza per apportare cambiamenti significativi, accelerati e a lungo termine alla società. Firme sulle petizioni, idee da condividere, donazioni (ovviamente volontarie), sono ciò che ognuno di noi può dare a queste realtà per plasmare un’Italia migliore.
